Bentham Reed
joined Coldwell Banker Commercial Cornerstone in
January of 2008.
Bentham’s work
in real estate began at the age of 16 when he purchased
his first investment property through a tax sale. Since
then, he has actively bought and sold various other real
estate properties including industrial and recreational
properties, and continues to maintain a portfolio of
rental houses.
As a 1998
graduate of The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Accounting, Bentham began his professional
career with Ernst & Young, LLP in Greenville, S.C. as a
licensed CPA. Here he specialized in the company’s real
estate division where he was a member of the AIMCO and
Insignia audit teams, and assisted in the audits, test
of controls and the issuing of the 10K’s. Additionally,
he was involved in the tender offer process of issuing
new REITS within these entities.
Bentham has also
been very involved in the military as a member of the
South Carolina National Guard since 1994 when he joined
at the age of 18. He subsequently received his
commission after graduating from The Citadel. Bentham
later went to flight school in Alabama where he became
an Apache helicopter pilot and also earned his civilian
commercial rotary wing license. In 2004, Bentham
volunteered to go to Iraq with the 1/178th FA
Battalion. There he served as a platoon leader doing
convoy security. The security mission allowed Bentham
to travel all over Iraq with missions lasting as long as
15 days and extending to the far borders of Iraq.
Bentham is currently a Captain in the National Guard on
inactive status.
Shortly after
returning from Iraq in December of 2005, Bentham
co-founded Haskell Granite and Marble Fabricators, LLC.
There he was responsible for sales, purchasing,
scheduling, templating and accounting. He sold his
interest in the company in January of 2008 in order to
work full-time in commercial real estate.
Bentham’s
diverse background as an accountant, business owner,
real estate investor and military serviceman gives him a
unique perspective and a strong foundation for the many
varying aspects involved in the commercial real estate
business.
Bentham
currently lives in Sumter and is actively involved in
The Church of the Holy Comforter. |
